you need to go way back dude if you want to to hear the good stuff. Your on the right track with Tosh. UB40.....well they might be cool guys to hang out with but I just dont feel any authenticity from them. Check out some of these artists and their albums.....

Toots and the Maytals - Time Tough ( Toots coined the word reggae)
Burning Spear - Man in th Hills
Aswad - Self Titled album
Israel Vibration - Same Song
The Heptones - Night Food
The Wailers - Burnin'
Bunny Wailer - Blackheart Man (probably my favorite reggae records of all time)
Third World - 1865, (96 degrees in the Shade).
Pablo Moses - A Song
Steel Pulse - Handsworth Revolution, True Democracy
Gladitators - Trenchtown Mixup
The Abyssinians - Satta Massagana
Eek A Mouse - Wa Do Dem
Dennis Brown - any of his. i think he recorded more records than all of the above combined. he was the hardest working man in reggae music so to say.

This should get you started. There is a ton more but most of Most of the the new stuff i just cant get into.
There are a couple newer artists/bands like Groundation, John Browns Body, and Julian Marley but......The older Roots Reggae is where its at. Welcome to the fold.
