Jane Doe-Converge

I made this review on RYM so bear with.
This is easily one of the more polarizing albums on RYM (At least I think it is) , and I can see why a lot people dislike it. Doesn't help that No Heroes was crap. Yes, I know I gave it a good rating, I'm just a fanboy. The reason I like it is because while it sounds totally chaotic, if you listen closely enough there's always a certain order to it. I think this is really well-illustrated on the album-opener Concubine, with it's melodic guitar lines on the drum breaks. Fault And Fracture also has a similar start-stop dynamic with the intensity level, but it's much faster and completely unmelodic. /these first two songs really blend into each other, and set a great pace and feel for the start of the album, along with placing the vocals in the background (Which is why this is my favorite Converge album) . The next track Distance And Meaning is a total change of pace with it's strangely melodic guitars and seemingly random drums. Hell To Pay is the strangest song on the album, with the same vibe as Distance And Meaning...But slowed down! It seems to gradually build into a huge true Converge style song, but ends up just plodding along except for a few moments. The song is great, but the execution is lackluster. Now we come to Homewrecker. Possibly my favorite Converge song ever, it's just plain brilliant. Ever so slightly melodic, it's like honey in nettle tea. Bad analogy I know. The next two songs are frankly, not worth talking about...Actually, I'm changing my rating now that I think about it. Heaven In Your Arms Sound like a normal Converge song at first, but then segways into a short but sweet section with what sound like a distorted bass (I have no idea what it actually is) , then repeats this formula. A ecent song, but nothing to really sneeze at. Fortunetaly Phoenix In Flames/Flight is an incredible song, possibly better than Homewrecker. It's one of the most atmospheric Metal songs I've ever heard, and is so totally different than anything I've heard. It's like a combo of Stadium Rock and Metalcore! Phoenix In Flames is basically an outro for the song. Thaw is a basic Converge, and is just plain good. It's got the melodic breaks, virtuoso drumming, everything you've come to expect from Converge. Here we come to the epic album-closer and title track. It's the only song on the album with real singing. Honestly I can't think of a way to describe. All I can say is listen to it, several times. Overall there are weak tracks here, as I said, but this is one of the best Metalcore albums out there.
