Thread: Drawing

So I started drawing this last week, and still working on it. It took roughly 4 hours, so some feedback would be appreciated. I know there's a lot of negative/white space, but I'm currently adding some things to make it more interesting. I'm pretty stoked on it so far. Hope you all enjoy.

Yeah downlow's right. It isn't bad by any means but I think you could benefit a lot by taking some more time on your shading. As it is now most of the shading is pretty basic with only two or three different layers of pressure applied. Making it smoother and more precise would add so much depth to the picture, especially around the facial area where imo it's needed most. The branches in the background could get some benefit out of that too. I also suggest getting some higher quality coloured pencils or being more careful about application of them since the stroke marks in the rainbow in the background stand out quite a lot.

In your credit, the brain is really well done. It looks pretty convincing; did you trace it on? I really like the harsh contrast of the black against the white, it works well in context of the rest of the picture.

As for other more minor details, I couldn't help but notice the reflections on the eyes. Unless it is intended, in which case apologies in advance, it seems as if light is hitting them from two different positions. Sort of awkward when you look at them as a pair. The left pupil (from the viewer's prospective) is also significantly larger than the right. The right ear, again from the viewer's prospective, is also larger than its counterpart.

Despite this it's an interesting and evidently emotional picture. You've managed to convey a facial expression very well, something which I see a good number of people struggle with. Overall despite the nitpicks I enjoyed it; well done! ^^

Nope. Did by hand with pen. I never trace anything. That's for cheaters only!

And yeah it was intended to give off a very awkward expression, and be very abstract. Glad you took away what I was going for...
