Alice in chains. Metallica is cool and all, but they just aren't interesting enough to beat AIC.

Definitely the closest poll I've ever seen.

Well, for one, Alice in Chains was grunge, and Metallica is metal. How can you even compare two different genres of music? But I would rather listen to AIC.

Well, first of all, Alice In Chains was metal. Second of all, grunge is not a genre, it was a place and period in time... But I agree that they were in two different genres of music. Alice In Chains, especially on the Dirt album, had a very unique metal sound. (I guess it would have to be categorized as alternative metal.) While Metallica is what, thrash??? I'm not 100% sure about Metallica because I don't listen to them...

yes, but you SHOULD listen to them.

and i totally agree with FT about "grunge". and whats the matter with COMPARING and CONTRASTING two bands from two genres. it's just a "who do you like more" question? it makes it more interesting.

I kinda agree, when the bands are fairly different the voting gets interesting, you never know who might win. Usually when the bands are similar it's a simple matter of picking which plays the style better or which one has more appeal, with differences things are shaken up a bit. and you already know I disagree on the grunge thing, so no further argument from me

it's not so much the genres, but the differet feelings between the songs, if that makes sense. Metal-you grow your hair, you talk about metally things like beating the crap out of people. Grunge-you grow your hair out shorter and you don't wash it. You talk about grungy things like...umm...grungy things...like having the aroma of woman deoderant and stuff like not knowing your mom basically raped you cuz you look like your dad. Bonus points for this who know those songs I'm talking about. But, I guess when it comes down to it, I just prefer a good, slower, powerful riff instead of a faster more upbeat one.

I know one of those songs is Smells Like Teen Spirit. But you gotta get yourself to the nearest record store and buy some Soundgarden CD's... The ones from before 1994...
