Default Tutoring

I'm thinking about getting tutored for bass, however, i don't know where or how much? Does anyone have a rough idea how much it would cost?

Another question, am i better off just being a self taught bassist? Any advice and feedback is greatly appreciated. Even if it a yes or no to getting tutored. Thanks in advance.

I have a friend who plays bass Damo, I'll pass along your question and see what he has to say.

Hey I'm the "friend"

Anyway, bass is an instrument that is played with feel, not exactly form. Getting tutored will help your technical playing, and well get you started off quicker. But if you teach yourself, your playing style (which is much more important then say, the playing style on the guitar) and the 'feel' of the bass will be different.

I would say If you will be willing to work hard and play, teach yourself. This is one of the few instruments that is better to teach yourself. You become deeply in-tune with your bass, and it feels very 'natural' after a while.

I'll probably just try and teach myself. I have a question if you don't mind. Am i better of playing with my fingers or a pick. I know the pick gives it a little more aggressive sound, but in the end am i better off playing with fingers? I've been playing with a pick. I don't know the technique for fingers, and when i try i find it hard to find rhythm, even if im just going boom boom boom boom with an open. Any advice?

Well, your body learns 2 things, it learns the frethand moves, and the picking/plucking hand moves.

When your learning the fret hand parts its best to go with most comfortable (i.e. for you use the pick), and this is most important.

And here's what I recommend. Learn a song however you want, until you have it down really good. So you can play it in your sleep (If you have it down, but not so comfortable you can play 'in your sleep' keep moving on in songs, but practice this one still) Once you have it down, put away the pick, and play it with your fingers until its comfortable that way also, because you've played the song so much, the rhythm should come naturally to your fingers. And play it that way, till you can play it perfect.

Keep doing that with all of your songs, learn pick, then finger, or if you get comfortable learn finger, then try it out with pick and see if you like the sound. But never neglect either one, until you have really established your sound.

There is nothing wrong in having lessons,as long as it have good rudiments and foundation. But it is also nice to learn it by yourself.Just a tip, before having a lesson,as a bass player try to learn some guitar principles. That will help a lot.
