I have a couple favorites...one is Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C# Minor (Op3. No.2)...and I did some research on Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture. As a classically trained musician Im not supposed to like 1812 because it's too well known (for some reason thats a bad thing). Anyways...you can see an article I wrote on it here . I love that piece now....

I love the 1812 and don't care what anyone else says, it's simply a fun piece of music.

I don't think I could choose a favorite--there are so many amazing pieces and I seem to be discovering more all the time.

I like the version from the soundtrack of Platoon as well. Didn't realize they had used it in a video game soundtrack though, it's nice to know the classics still find their way into all kinds of media.

In the UK there is a classical music independent radio station, Classic FM, which conducts a survey every year about the top 300 pieces of classical music. They invite all their listeners to vote for 3 pieces and then, over the Easter weekend they count down to the winners

For the last 3 years, the most popular piece has been "The Lark Ascending" by Vaughan Williams.

They also claim that this is the biggest survey conducted anywhere in the world.

The programme is pretty good, even if you don't agree with the final verdict
