Why are some classical music listeners such snobs?

Reading the answers to the 15yr olds question really disturbs me. I think the best sign of intelligence is someone who can appreciate all music, not just one specific type. If any music sounds like "noise" to you, then maybe you should have your ears checked. Unless of course the music is meant to sound like noise as rebellion against the status quo. And even then, it would be art.
I can understand going through a specific musical phase (hey I hated country music for half my life before realizing that all music categories have variations) but to classify "pop" negatively is to limit your own musical horizons.
Seriously, aren't there some classical pieces you hate? I sure hate Dvorak more than I hate Britney Spears.
I can understand not liking something because it is discordant but hating an entire musical genre? To speak in the language of kids today, that's gay.
