Default Why is classical music percieved as boring by a lot of young people?

How could they consider Britney Spears and Timbaland to be even on the same scale as Chopin or Beethoven? Well they don't, they think Madona is better than both of them put together. How can they be so wrong.

look, if someone thinks britney or madonna is good than they do not know music at all, just the crap they pump out.
Maybe they haven't heard any classical music they like, if they dont play an instrument then they will not appreciate it.
I love Classical music, but none of my friends really know this except my boyfriend. ive played the piano for years and listened to story tapes with classical music on them when i was a child.
Problem is, classical music isnt as accessible as other types of music, and it not exactly known to be cool.
AND the classical crowd are seen as snobs, who look down their noses at other types of music.
For example- I am a total techno head. There is a skill involved in making a good, effective techno track, and mixing it in with other tracks just as there is skill involved in writing a orchestra or a solo piece (If u dont believe me, just try it.It is not just boom boom boom) But any people I have met who are into classical wont even take the time to listen to it or learn to apreciate it. And i like hip hop,Irish trad, and some indie as well. I appreciate all good music, no matter what genre or who it is by.
Its a pity most young people(im young (23), i might sound like an 80 year old tho!!) dont appreciate it because there are some really beautiful pieces out there. Also, they do hear more of it than they realise. Alot of stuff they release these days, RnB, hip hop, pop, dance have samples of classical pieces. So they like it more than they know! Adagio for Strings trance tune, few eminem songs have classical samples. Closed minds, or maybe some of them just dont like it.

I'm not even young and don't like classical stuff. But I'm guessing that it's because people don't understand it or recognise it's virtues and complexities (I sure don't).

But then you probably wouldn't get any joy out of watching a good javelin thrower.

Each to his own, eh?

I think that it starts when we are small. Me, being a 16-year-old, totally sees this stuff going on. I'd never even heard of Beethoven or Bach until I was13 and started playing the Viola. Now, I'm going on advanced, and as my love for playing grows, my love for classical grows. I think the truth is, we like what we've heard when we are small. And, for most, it's not classical. It definitely wasn't for me. Playing it helps. But, come on, the generation of technology. Who wants to listen to something you can't relate to when you have all this new rock and pop and screamo at your fingertips? And, once you start liking those, it's seriously hard to sit still through a classical piece. Therefor, you like what you listen to pretty much.
