i'm mainly looking for lots of eeews and ahhhss, like depeche mode's Pimpf or something ... with angelic choir sounds and harmonies , and or like the trippy gothic opera sounds, that opera people and catholic monks chanting etc sometimes make

if i recall .. am old band called "will", with album "pearl of great price" was a bit similar to what i'm thinking.

There's a lot out there, what you want depends on how much you're willing to spend and how high of a quality of sounds you want.

There are a few shareware programs you can find on the internet for free like CSound and the free version of acid.

for simple sounds on the cheap you can be cheap synth with some basic midi sounds for about $100-200

If you want something with better sounds a Roland SH-201 or similar synth will do the job. price about $1000-2000

If you're more serious you'll need some editing software like protools or digital performer. price $500 and up.
