It's nice that you found the video for "Old Home Place," Magic. That's always been one of my very favorite bluegrass songs, and happens to be on that album I recommended, though with Tony Rice singing lead and playing guitar and Ricky Skaggs singing the tenor part and playing mandolin.

It's funny how perspectives on style and genre shift and change as time passes. Being a certifiable old f*rt, to me Brooks seems on the cutting edge of new country, but I admit that's only from where I stand now, looking back. To newer listeners he's beginning to approach "elder statesman" status. Maybe not quite there yet, but soon...

Sorry Magic,,,I can't think of Garth as anything other than country/pop/rock....especially at the height of his popularity. His concerts were so much more rock and roll than country I just don't tag him with the traditional label. Some songs I agree, but his fame was in bringing a larger audience to country music, and he succeeded big time. I don't have any of his albums though,,,just never got the itch that so many others did. No comment about the Chris Gaines transformation either...

A few years back I happened on Brooks on some TV show, and he told a funny story about how he was in a western-wear store once and overheard someone who had come in for a new shirt. The customer (who had no idea Brooks was in the store, and within hearing distance to boot) told the sales person that he wanted a "real" cowboy shirt, and not one of those pieces of **** that Garth Brooks wears.

Personally I like both. I love Patsy Cline. Amazing voice. But my favourite singer is Shania Twain. However, there's some artists that I don't know where'd they fit. Like Pam Tillis and Patty Loveless and Alabama.

This reminds me of...it was just this past Wednesday night, I happen to be in a car with my oldest Son and a girl he knows. I think she is about 21 (it was her car). She was explaining the music she had on the flashdrive we were listening to; "one folder is country, on folder is rap and there is another one of classic rock - you know, like Metalica."
