Default I need your help...

I'm trying to get my son open to the idea of playing again.I'm not talking about several times a week like we did for many years. I've gotten a few request from some local places to play and it would be fun.My daughter who is 17 is all for it she's my bass player. My son is 15 and is a crazy good mandolin player. He has been fortunate enough to make good friends with some of the best in the world and be taught by them.He could make a living in music if thats what he chose to do. How do I get him to open the case back up and play a little without being the overbearing oger of a Dad?We have played so much over the years we would only need to run over some material and knock the dust off so it's not a big time restraint. Any tips from you younger folks would be greatly appreciated.

Oh,boy,I wish I could help you,but I'm not sure. Maybe just sit down with him, tell him how you feel, how great of a musician you think he is,how much you love him,and how much this means to you.

I don't know,I'm not a parent,I'm only 20,but I think that could be worth a shot. And if he can't do that for you and have a little fun, than,I'm sorry, but that's pretty selfish.

Do you need a keyboardist in your band? lol

Maybe my good friend Lord Grendel will know some good advice.

Any youngster of 15 can be difficult to get them to do ANYTHING with a parent. I would suggest asking him if he is interested in doing a few gigs with you, maybe even make it worth his time by rewarding him with something he wants Or even involve some of his freinds along with you guys.

Just a few suggestions from a mother of a Teenager

Magic

Just burnout I think. he started playing at 5 and was playing in bands not to long after that. He was doing about 150 dates a year when he was 7 with the group I played with.

I don't think you can really do anything to encourage your son to play again. If he has been playing for that long maybe he does need a break. You could use reverse psychology or try to find a replacement and sing his/her praises maybe that would get him interested again. Just some thoughts cfmrtn66.
