Genre naming is a tough thing. It's very subjective, because it changes based on what a particular era called the music of that time. Alot of artists from the 70's that are considered "pop rock" now, had completely different names for their genre in their own era. We call a whole plethera of different songs "oldies" when at the time of their conception, they had very defineable genres. Soooo, to answer your question...
I think in actuality, Evanescence's call me when your sober is kind of like a power-ballad. But the easiest thing to do is call it "Pop-Rock" because it's popular, it's rock, and that's a very all encompassing term.
Now, if the song means too much to you to give it such a title, perhaps you could call it "goth-rock", which really wouldn't be a correct genre, but to fans it would be.
Yes... yes... there is a deep science to all of this... genre naming is an art form all it's own... |
