    Default Depressing Music

Hi I am looking for some reccomendations for some depressing music. I have been listening to leonard cohen but much of his stuff is dated now (I still love it) and stuff like Depeche Mode, Radiohead and NIN. But I need some new stuff, the darker the better.

Depressing music... that's a genre...? or just depressing music in general?

Doom metal in general has an overall melancholy sound. Katatonia is fav for me. Same with Rapture and some Swallow the sun.

    One of my favorite songs:

Rapture is kind of melodic doom, interesting mix:

I would also say indie rock tends to lean more on the melancholy aura, at least the indie I listen to

I don't see why you would want to listen to music which makes you depressed...

With what you've listed i suggest THE CURE, SMITHS, PJ HARVEY, CONCRETE BLONDE, ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN, LOVE AND ROCKETS, XTC, BAUHAUS, NEW ORDER, PSYCHEDELIC FURS, AND THE PIXIES.

I was actually going to open my last post saying that using the term "depressive music" makes one just sound like an idiot; I sometimes slip and use the same phrase and it just makes me sound, well, "emo" or some dumb goth kid looking for sympathy. But non-the-less, it describes the music all the same. Its not that one wants to listen to it to become depressed, moreso a simple characteristic. Also, people listen to "depressing music" (I like melancholy term better) probably because they are depressed and so they connect with it.

This actually is probably a good topic for another thread, but I think that "melancholy" music has meaning, more in-dept emotion than "happy" music does. Its hard to explain... but like I said, thats a good topic that deserves its own thread for debate.

People get enjoyment out of being pessimistic sometimes.

Why wouldn't you want to listen to "depressing music"

I love the way that some music can provoke so much emotion. Light and happy to Dark and moody.

I think that it all depends what kind of mood you are in

Probably one of the main reasons I listen to "depressing music", I really like the emotional feeling I get from some heart felt music.

This is as close to depressing music as it gets for me, but this kinda makes me think about life and that you gotta be thankful for what you've got... not exactly depressing music..
