Question How do you Promote Your Band?

Hi All.

I am looking for some help. I am looking for ideas for the best ways to promote your band, both online or offline, including which are the best websites. Also if anyone has experience with either icontact or ourstage please let me know what you experience was.

I am going to be composing a list of these ideas for public distribution.

I currently have a list of Ways to Promote Your Band here:

77 Ways to Promote Your Band

Please take a look and let me know if you agree, disagree, or have ideas for new items to add to the list.

I really appreciate the help, please email me or discuss here!

Thanks!

there really aren't a lot of ways to promoting a band. just let people know you're heard and you'll be noticed in no time. Slack and you won't get famous.

There isn't a good or bad way to promote your band. Message boards, Myspace, and Facebook are all great ways to spreading your name out to the public.

I'll have to look further at your list. All action is better than no action.

I work for a booking agency and manager and i suggest you get both. Also, word of mouth is the best promotion. Play a lot of gigs and make nice with the venues because they have more contacts than you and can get your band name out there.

Try posting your music on social networking and social bookmarking sites! The more people view your music, the more popular it becomes. It could be a great way to network and promote!

The list you posted has a lot of good basic ways to spread your name around to the public. Message boards are good and using social networking sites like Myspace is a good tool. You have to be creative and keep pushing your band to whoever will pay attention. And don't forget to play shows too. That is key to getting your name out.

I think the other posts covered all of this so I'm seconding what was previously stated.

All the promotion in the world won't help if you don't have a good unique sound. That being said, those 77 ways you posted are a very good start, and definitely look into those social networking sites.

Other than the obvious use of the internet, I would do shows at local venues. A website works best, for example Eric Solomon (ericsolomonmusic.com) has created a huge fan base from his website alone. Oh and because his music is amazing. Check him out!
