Sure, my personal preferences aside - I still don't see how you can say they are commercial. They have some "pop-y" sounding songs, I admit. But commercial... I just don't see that.
1) never once aired on MTV (even while other west coast punk bands at the time were ex. Rancid, Offspring)
2)never once have I heard them on commercial radio (satellite yes, terrestrial no)
3)I sure have never seen a TV commercial feature an audio bit of NOFX
4)Co-own their own record label (that's pretty DIY, no?)
Sorry to still drag this on, just wondering your thoughts on why NOFX can not be labeled as "punk". Were they @ one time punk and sold out? What are they doing or not doing that makes them not punk, while other bands are?
Is this really a matter of YOU don't like them so they're not punk? Have you listened to Liberal Animation? Ribbed? S&M Airlines?
Hasn't punk always been an attitude rather than a sound? If all punk bands HAVE to follow a regiment on what they sounded like - that would in a sense kill everything punk means. Then we'd have 100's of Ramones or Misfits wanna-be bands out there.
