Question -

Do you think Music Piracy is affecting the Music Industry?

If you could spare 2mins to let me know what you think it would be much appreciated.

Yes, obviously, but only because the record labels are incredibly greedy and refuse to move with the times.

That's right monkeysbite, music piracy affects the music industry because people prefer to buy pirated CD's and DVD's coz its very cheap.
Some DVD's and music CD's are the same as the original one.

and Hi there Geelove!

MeMyMine is right the record labels are living in the past when they controlled everything their artists did from the songs they put on their albums to the amount of promotion for new releases and support for tours. I've used the same statistic more than once about this subject and here it is again, out of every $10.00 that a good fan like Geelove spends on a CD, the artist gets around $1.70...and that is ridiculous and unacceptable. If the big labels don't want to go extinct they will have to change how they do business including at least sharing 50% of the profits with the artists that produce the music they distribute. They are no longer essential for distribution of music, the internet has provided so many new innovative ways to do things they are just holding out to protect their once complete monopoly on the industry. The message is clear, change how you do business, or go out of business like so many other obsolete corporations have done when refusing to adapt to a new marketplace.

of course its affecting the music industry.

as for me i support downloading and i buy albums, how are you going to find new bands to listen to if you cant download for free first? im not gona blow money on an album only to find out it sucks.

i try to buy all albums i download and like, i like having a collection of cds to look at, instead of just a bunch of mp3's on a computer.

I buy CD's as well Extreme but a few weeks ago a band out of Montreal offered a FLAC download of their new album, which when you convert to WAV is as good as the one you buy, and they get the majority of the profit for their album doing it themselves, that is the point I was making about the old obsolete way the recording industry does business. And yeah checking out a band before you buy the whole album is a good thing.
