Thread: Cobain: Suicide or Murder?

    Post Cobain: Suicide or Murder?

As most people know the vocalist/guitarist for nirvana died on April 7, 1994. What most people still question is whether he ended his own life, or if his wife helped him along. People say that Kurts suicide note wasn't really much of a note because only the last four lines allude to his suicide and he was found next to his stash box and had two burnt spoons and two syringes. They say that he was way too high to physically shoot himself. What are your thoughts?

here is what Kurts note said:

    To Boddah

Speaking from the tongue of an experienced simpleton who obviously would rather be an emasculated, infantile complain-ee. This note should be pretty easy to understand.

All the warnings from the punk rock 101 courses over the years, since my first introduction to the, shall we say, ethics involved with independence and the embracement of your community has proven to be very true. I haven't felt the excitement of listening to as well as creating music along with reading and writing for too many years now. I feel guilty beyond words about these things.

For example when we're back stage and the lights go out and the manic roar of the crowds begins., it doesn't affect me the way in which it did for Freddie Mercury, who seemed to love, relish in the love and adoration from the crowd which is something I totally admire and envy. The fact is, I can't fool you, any one of you. It simply isn't fair to you or me. The worst crime I can think of would be to rip people off by faking it and pretending as if I'm having 100% fun. Sometimes I feel as if I should have a punch-in time clock before I walk out on stage. I've tried everything within my power to appreciate it (and I do, God, believe me I do, but it's not enough). I appreciate the fact that I and we have affected and entertained a lot of people. It must be one of those narcissists who only appreciate things when they're gone.

I'm too sensitive. I need to be slightly numb in order to regain the enthusiasms I once had as a child.

On our last 3 tours, I've had a much better appreciation for all the people I've known personally, and as fans of our music, but I still can't get over the frustration, the guilt and empathy I have for everyone. There's good in all of us and I think I simply love people too much, so much that it makes me feel too ****ing sad. The sad little, sensitive, unappreciative, Pisces, Jesus man. Why don't you just enjoy it? I don't know!

I have a goddess of a wife who sweats ambition and empathy and a daughter who reminds me too much of what i used to be, full of love and joy, kissing every person she meets because everyone is good and will do her no harm. And that terrifies me to the point to where I can barely function. I can't stand the thought of Frances becoming the miserable, self-destructive, death rocker that I've become.

I have it good, very good, and I'm grateful, but since the age of seven, I've become hateful towards all humans in general. Only because it seems so easy for people to get along that have empathy. Only because I love and feel sorry for people too much I guess.

Thank you all from the pit of my burning, nauseous stomach for your letters and concern during the past years. I'm too much of an erratic, moody baby! .

I don't have the passion anymore, and so remember, it's better to burn out than to fade away.

    Peace, love, empathy. Kurt Cobain

Frances and Courtney, I'll be at your alter.

Please keep going Courtney, for Frances.

For her life, which will be so much happier without me. I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU!

    Some thinking music:

    Very good thread, Cowboy.

I'm not sure if it was suicide or murder. I see a lot evidence that points to a suicide, but I also see a lot of evidence that it could have been murder.

Also, the electrician that found Kurt said there were no severe signs of trauma, just a little bit of blood coming out of his ear. I don't understand that part.

he was found with two burnt spoons and two syringes, which leads me to believe he wasn't alone. one possibility is that she could have gotten him high as a kite and shot his brains all over the room.

    That makes sense.

Also, the singer of The Mentors, El Duce, said that Courtney Love offered him $50,000 to kill Kurt, but he said didn't do it, thinking Love was joking.

Could've been added by family members as well... Hmm... I'm gonna go with suicide... Highly unlikely that it was added though...

I don't think we'll ever know what really happened.

    Hahahaha.

Couldn't Courtney just take a lie detector test?

no one will ever know, but personally i always thought it was a murder. seeing that note makes me wonder if it really was a suicide. either way it was sad and he should still be alive today even if it meant that he quit performing.

No way of ever knowing. But my gut says murder. If you have ever seen picture of what a shot gun to the head can do and then hear how there was only a little bit of blood coming out of Cobain's ear that makes you wonder.

Jason Thirsk the bass player for Pennywise shot himself with a hand gun and it made more of a mess then how Cobain's body was found.

I think it was murder but we will never know.

could have been a slug which would have done much less damage than buckshot, birdshot would have been pretty inconsequential too. also depends on the gauge of the shotgun he used.

    Exactly.

I've seen a pic of a guy who used a shotgun to kill himself in his car and his face was gone, literally. You could just see not even half of what was left after he blew himself away.

I'd say murder but I don't think Courtney pulled the trigger. Got someone else to do it? Maybe, but who knows how many enemies Kurt had.

I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate here as I've never seen the actual photos of his body and would need to see them to form more of an accurate opinion.

If you go with the suicide theory, it's important to also take into account that people who attempt suicide with a firearm will instinctively pull away as the trigger is pulled. People have wounded themselves only superficially by doing this. So, not all gunshots, even from a shotgun, will be fatal. It's definitely a longshot, but very plausible.

well as far as I know, and all the looking on the internet, there are no real photos of Kurts death.

he was killed with 20 Ga. shotgun, and was supposed to be in his mouth or under his chin. I would think if he was laying down the electrician would have seen a gaping hole and burn marks on the bottom of his chin. I'd say he used birdshot because there is a good possibility that it would not have penetrated the back of the skull after being slowed down by gray matter.

Very true...I didn't realize there wasn't an exit wound.
