If you count the compilation album, Screaming Life/Fopp, Soundgarden had released six full albums... Screaming Life/Fopp was their first album and really showed their raw, experimental sound. Their next album was Ultramega OK, released in 1988, which is similar to Screaming Life/Fopp but not as raw. It still is an extremely raw, unclean album but it had a little more structure. In 1989, Soundgarden released Louder Than Love, which is much more refined than Ultramega OK and really shows off Chris Cornell's vocals. In 1991, Soundgarden released Ultramega OK, which is one of the most dynamic and intense albums that I've ever heard. Thayil busted out some amazing riffs on this album. In 1994, Soundgarden released their most commercially successful album, with Superunknown. It features Cornell's dark and depressing lyrics, along with a more alternative rock sound, instead of an alternative metal sound. In 1996, Soundgarden released their final studio album, Down On The Upside. It's definitely their lightest album but also their lengthiest album, holding 16 songs.
Which is your favorite Soundgarden album? I was stuck choosing between Badmotorfinger and Louder Than Love but I went with Louder Than Love...
