I used to find it hard also, but with practice you'll be able to do it.

I have the same problem. Two things seem to help: (1) practicing in the standing position and (2) shortening up the guitar strap so that it sits a lot higher...this doesn't look as cool as a low-slung "rocker" position, but it's easier.

If you're having trouble with forming chords while standing up that you don't have when seated, your wrist position is changing. Work on proper posture and wrist postion to help improve your fingering seated or standing.

Yeah. I find it pretty tough. The strap is sort of uncomfortable. When I'm sitting down I can just put in on my lap.

There's a pretty simple solution to this. But you're not gonna like it.

If you find it hard playing standing up, it means your strap is too long. Basically, when you're sitting down, the strap should be tight on your shoulders. When you stand up, the guitar shouldn't move, it should be in exactly the same position.

Yeah, it looks nowhere near as "cool" as the guitarists like Slash, who have the guitar rubbing their knees, but watch true guitarists, the ones with the real talent, such as John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani etc. Their guitars are right up by their chests, because it means their hands don't change position between sitting and standing.

There's no other way round it. You have to decide to either look cool, or be able to play well.
