Default When playing the guitar?

When you play the guitar how do you like combine the chords? Like when the tabs say Am, Cm, Am, Cm how do you play those? Because I'm a begginner and like when you learn it says do not play the fifth string or something and then like for the other chord it says do play the fifth string? And also how do you strum?

I'm not sure I fully inderstand what you're saying. An Am cord would be the 1st fret on the second string, and the 2nd frets and the third and fourth strings, and you strum 5 strings. A C would be 1st fret on the second string, 2nd fret on the third, and 3rd fret on the fourth. it's very easy to alternate between an Am and a C. You just move your ring finger.

And the strumming just depends on your personal style and preference of playing.
