a standard acoustic guitar has nothing inside the body except for the bridge setup. All of the sound coming from the instrument is the resonating sound and sound waves that come out of the hole under your strings. Different acoustic bodies have different sounds, i.e. different brand names.

An electric/acoustic has a pickup inside of the body, as well as an input for a cable so you can play through and amp or directly record the sound from the source. These also come with an equalizer, usually 3 band(bass, mid range, treble). Electric acoustics are popularized by Ovation, and are slightly more expensive depending on the quality of the electronics.

The difference between an acoustic and an electric guitar is simply amplification. An electric one needs an amplifier, but they are much easier to play. The electric instrument will cost more because you will have to purchase a good amp, and they both cost quite a bit of money. The acoustic instrument is more limited in shape and size because both shape and size make a difference on the sound that comes from the guitar.
