Default Does anyone know some good independent music artists I can check out?

I am looking to listen to new music...and would like some suggestions.

I am not looking for death metal, so please do not include death metal in your response.

Currently I listen to:

-XIU XIU
-The Knife
-Antony and the Johnsons
-Atari Teenage Riot (as an exception, not the rule)
-Bjork
-Clap your hands say Yeah
- CocoRosie
- Damien Rice
- Depeche Mode
- Devaendra Banhart
- Dizzee Rascal
- Feist
- Iron and wine
- Kid Dakota
- Nina Simone
- The Gossip
- Primus

Also I want to listen to some new hip hop beats.

This is the sort of rap-ish music I like:

-Lady Sovereign
-Saul Williams
- M.I.A
-Dizzee Rascal

So if anyone can give me some sweet music ideas, it would be awesome!

Also I would suggest checking some of the above notes.

Awww yeah....

LOLLOLOLOL. All the bands you mentioned are mainstream rock, Metal or Post-Grunge.

Default indie/alternative bands.?

if i love panic at the disco, bullet for my valentine, a lot of electronica... that kind of amounts to the band Breathe Carolina. it has electronica, a little bit of screamo, and lots of catchy melodic lyrics. what other bands/songs do you suggest? i donm't like heavy screamo like atreyu and the devil wears prada, fyi.

If you like Panic At The Disco (especially Pretty Odd) then check out DeathCab for Cutie and Radiohead, or the Decemberists. None of them have really "yelly" sound, and they're all pretty mellow (DCFC leans a bit towards "emo").
