Try to listen to some classic alternatives like Pearl Jam,STP and Candlebox.They are one of my influence and part of my progression in my playing.

my favorite indie band right now is either Cursive or Gabriel the Marine.

I know this band...and they are not indie or alternative. But they have excellent music. I will start a thread in the proper forum on them

I don't know what kind of stuff you're looking for, but I've recently discovered The Mountain Goats, they're really good. I've also been listening to the Talking Heads a lot, and Nick Lattanzi, I don't know if anyone's heard of him.
