The term latin music is a very broad term which includes music of Latin origins. The languages which are predominate in Latin music, or as it is now known as Latin American Music, is Spanish, Portuguese, and creole languages.
Rhythm is very important in Latin American Music. Alot of this music is very heavy in percussion instruments. The vocals tend to be very "throaty" or with a harsh, coarse sound. The lyrics are often improvised. The beats and vocals of Latin American Music tends to make one tap their feet and feel like dancing!

You will see that alot of the music styles are also Dance forms, and notably so, because the origins of alot of these styles came from the dance that the music inspired and visa versa.
