Default Do any African Americans find the song "Read a Book" by Music and Lyrics offensive?

I watched the video premiere on 106&Park Friday. Many people say that it is offensive and being an African American myself it was unnecessary. However, maybe this song can get the point across. Maybe their tactic was stooping down to the level at which we already lower ourselves to by watching these degrading, meaningless and superficial songs/videos. If we can listen to Lil' John scream "Yeah" and "Okay" all the time than maybe not only African Americans but all ethnicities can listen to them tell us to "READ A BOOK!"

If you haven't heard it.......here's the website.......

i saw it yesterday too. i think that it is half-and-half. the part where he talks about stop dancing with that girl and watch your kid and the reading part ect. if more people not just blacks took care of their business kids would not grow up as screw ups. but yes it is offensive to those people in that situation( not me) and they could have stated it in a better way. hopefully people will learn from it.

I didn't get offended. I saw it as a positive message while appealing to the masses.

basically they are trying to get the message out, that too many black kids are out on the streets, hustling, and smokin pot. but he wants them to end the stereo type of the blacks out in the hood, and have more with jobs, and more as political figures and stuff. but that all starts by picking up a book, instead of grindin at teen clubs.

That was hard to watch. My problem is that people tend to associate that with all African Americans. In addition, the things they are saying are on a very low level of communication. I think the ones that need encouragement in those areas are going to find this more funny than offensive or encouraging.

I wonder what was the artist's reasoning behind this. He took a perfectly good message and wrapped it in trash. That's how I see it.

I think its very necessary.
Black folks dont listen to good advice these days so some one need to literally shove it into their heads.
Read.
Take care of your f*ckin'kids.
Brush your damn teeth.
Drink some water.
Wear deodorant.(PLEASE)
