I found another big big event in 1969. The Rolling Stones had a Free Concert in Altamont, CA. where a young man was brutally stabbed to death.

Another history making event was an Elvis Presley performance in Las Vegas, which broke attendance records and those records still stand today!

And just a little tid bit from this year, 1969, Simon and Garfunkel gave a concert in my hometown where I grew up at the university.

1969 that is a lifetime ago for me, lol. There were two great albums released in this year, Abbey Road from the Beatles, my all time favorite album by them even though it was almost the end of their recording career. In The Court Of The Crimson King from King Crimson which is probably the single most influential progressive rock album ever released, my brother owned both of these albums and they were part of my rite of passage into the world of rock and roll. Good idea Magic .

Back to 1969......AGAIN.

1969 was the year of the Tate-LaBianca murders, by The Manson cult. On the refrigerator door at the crime scene, written in blood was "healter skelter", and it was incorrectly spelled! I mention this because it spawned a host of music history. You can read more about the ties to the music of the Beatles at THIS SITE.

Charlie Manson was entranced by the Beatles song "Helter Skelter" from 1968 and this became earmarked as a theme for the murders. Even the book about the murders was titled "Helter Skelter". So, 1969 events made this song one of the most well known songs to come from this time.

That was a tragic sequence of events no doubt, I laugh now when Manson applies for parole every time he's eligible and tries to convince the panel that he is fit to participate in society after serving his sentence, he is completely insane and I sure hope they keep him right where he is until his final trip to ****.
