You or some one else was talking about buying cd's instead of like i tunes downloads. Because of the quality. Is there really a noticeable difference.

If you are listening to your earbuds on your i-pod the best quality from Apple is 256 KBs AAC, which is pretty good. When I was talking about my preference it was because I listen to my music on my home stereo system and I want the WAV format which is 1411KBs,,,so the difference is amazing for me. I wished Apple would offer me WAV or FLAC versions on i-tunes then I would gladly pay the 10 bucks for a complete CD and burn my own copy.(Apple does have a lossless codec but it is not offered from the i-tunes store.)

Thanks LG! When you download music, there are several file formats and bit rates. The higher the bit rate (expressed in Kbs) the better the sound quality or resolution. This sound quality is achieved at "ripping". Once a file bit rate is chosen, you cannot alter it. Translation: the lower the bit rate the smaller the file size. Lets say you upload a photo in black and white, I may be able to colorize it, but I can't reproduce the original colors! does that make sense?
Audio file formats; there are lots of formats. The most common are MP3, MP4, FLAC, WMA, WAV, and MIDI. What the format means is a way of storing the audio file. A WAV file is uncompressed and the purest file. A FLAC and WMA are lossless compression, which means the file is compressed but with no loss in quality just like a zip file. MP3 and MP4 are open formats, and compressed. This storage method is most common and what it does is eliminate inaudible sound variations to make the file smaller. A WMA file honors the copyright protections. And a MIDI file is how synthesized and alot of home created sounds are stored.
Hopefully I have put the complex subject of music files in better perspective!

Very nice Magic, I detect GDUB's influence in your post. WMA is only lossless if you select that option, there are various bit rates you can use to encode in this format, similar to M4A, which also has a lossless format but you can't dl from i-tunes with it either because they are too stupid to offer CD's in this format.
