first off, I have to move your thread to the lounge for discussion.

Second, I am not sure what you mean? Do you upload them to P2P services?

No, what I mean is that if I created a digital auido file like MP3, and
then I sell it to someone. But I am wondering if there are ways to
track if the buyer has illigeally re-sell or re-dirstute the file.

Or you could not give a crap, and be glad that your music is being shared and heard.

Artists these days.

I remember a few years ago Sony experimented with copy protecting their retail CD's a Celine Dion release I think it was and they got bombarded with complaints, apparently thousands of people couldn't get the CD to play in their CD/DVD players because of the coding Sony put in to prevent ripping/copying etc., lesson learned the hard way. I'm not sure if anyone does that anymore but it made me laugh.

Yea i remeber reading about when that happened with Sony, a Static Lullaby Cd wouldn't load on Windows Media because of it. (or something like that)

For one thing, you have stated, "i sell it to someone". I am no expert, but when you sell something, you better have it legally bound in writing what they can and cant do with the file, and all parties sign it, if you want to still have control of the file. If you sell it, and dont protect your rights legally, then you lose all control of the file.

I am sure there are ways to track where that file goes, yes.
