I'm actually doing quite a bit of research on good headphones right now, what price range are you looking in?

My brother just bought a $300.00 pair of Skullcrusher earbuds, he is impressed with the range and performance, however I think he is insane for spending that much on them. I've always had good luck with Sennheiser's over the years, for under $100.00 they always delivered the goods for me.

I just bought the RE2 (earbud) and Fiio E5 (headphone amp) Combo and am pretty pleased. the phones have a nice clarity that I found lacking in the sony buds that they replaced.

The phones come with a variety of buds- one pair ought to fit your ear.

The headphone amp really improves the phone's sound. Now that I am using an Archos 605 instead of an ipod, the sound output just isn't high enough for me. I've heard better headphone amps, but this one is not bad, it can be overloaded, you just have to fiddle with the volume control on your player and the amp. plus it's very small, which can be nice when you're moving around. So it's a good solution for my situation.

Grendel, at home I plug in a pair of Sennheiser HD-424s that I bought from ebay for $40. They are fantastic. Also about 25 years old!

I'm not sure if I posted this here before....but I want to share a little story with you.

Years ago I used ear-buds....and developed a serious earwax issue....the buds vibrated my canals to the point where all the wax built of into a ball and 100% blocked the canal....it took me 2 months (with doctor's help) to solve it.

Cans are best, even if they make you look dorky to some (not me, I think they're cool and show that you are concerned with the health of your ears)

If not Cans....some sort of "exterior" headphone is best....not one that enters the canal.

Please note, because of my ear situation (that I will tell you has relapsed on occasion) I have done extensive reasearch....probably more than I ever needed to - hahahaha....I'm still researching it....so is my Doctor.

I have had similar issues MZ, I hate earbuds and don't even use headphones at all anymore. Then again I have three surround systems in the house so earbuds are redundant in my case...

I only use headphones these days for 2 reasons...

1) The Munchkin is asleep and I want to really crank it! (pretty rare, the studio itself is 80% soundproof and her room is upstairs and at the other end of the house.)

2) I'm recording vocals, or an acoustic instrument in the studio

that's it, that's all for me, I know better!

and this includes IEM devices for stage (Inner Ear Monitors)

the advantages are: wireless, high quality (questionable) and anywhere you move sounds the same.
