There's no installation necessary FT, you just plug the USB from the external HD into a USB port on your computer and it'll find it automatically.
Then when you go into your 'My Computer' window you'll see there is an extra driver in there.
After that its just a case of copying your music folders onto it.

You dont install anything onto the external HD itself, it'll just need to configure its software to sync up with your computer the first time you use it, but thats automatic too, or at least it should be.

Just out of curiosity, what computer do you have?
Pretty awesome that it still works after 10 years, lol.

^ yep. it's all plug and play FT. you're just adding more storage, no installation is necessary.

You know that's a good point about the age of FT's computer. I've had some external drives not work with older computers/older windows programs.

I use mine to back up. I connect with a USB cord, go to my music folder (or whatever else I want to backup) right click, and select send to...pick the seagate freeagent drive from the list.

Droogie is right about newegg...it's definitely the place to purchase. They are always cheaper.

SMB, if you're reading this I wanted to tell you I tried that JetAudio program...didn't love it. I'm going to try Media Monkey and Winamp next.

Ah ok, yeah like i said before to you, Media Monkey is the one I used but it was just to get the album art, still just using VLC or WMP to listen to music on here.

...and i never even thought about the age issue with regards to his comp working on new external HD's, better watch out for that FT. Seagate is a good make to go with as has been said, i used to have some Western Digital HD's but that was hit and miss for me at times.

Alright, so I just purchased a 500 GB external hard drive. If I can't figure it out on my own, help would be appreciated...

Found New Hardware Wizard

Please help...

I think the problem is that I don't have any high speed USB ports, so I need help with that...
