Default Myspace...

In this modern day, nearly everyone i know has a myspace page, or knows someone who does, and chances are have a picture or to up as well. I've noticed that the age for my people with myspace is getting younger and younger. If this trend continues i think a problem may arise. I think its quite dangerous for children to be on it, with profile information and such showing where you live and what you like to do. I'm pretty sure if i was a father, and had a young daughter who ventured on myspace i'd worry. You just don't know whos out there, who could be looking, or even stalking! I know my girlfriend and i often get added by random people we don't know. What age would you let your children go on myspace?

I thought i'd have a little rant about it. Might make a good discussion.

This was a big issue in my house a couple years ago. I have a daughter now age 15 (as of today!) and I would not let her have a myspace until she was 14. She has her page on private, but it stll makes me uncomfortable knowing that there are all kinds of predators out there lurking to take advantage of not only young kids, but all kinds of people. I do make sure she has no identifying content on her myspace. But for the most part, I think the myspace is ok, it is just another way to have fun and express yourself on the internet.

I agree with it being ok. But i think it being ok when people take advantage of it. The world is full of sick, twisted people. If my sisters ask if they could have one i'll say no, there only 10, 8, 1. It just troubles me what people can do, and how vulnerable it makes young people to harassment and abuse.

If I'm not mistaken, you have to be a certain age to have a myspace page. I think that age is 13, but I am not sure. Anyway, there is no certain way to verify anyone's age in these things, and THAT is the issue that bothers me.

actually myspace has a way of varifying your age. you have to be 14 and the years that you select for your date of birth dont go any higher than for someone who was born 14 years ago. they dont have birth years for people who are 13 and under. so they do have a way of telling what your age is and keeping youngins off of myspace

Yeah, I guess that is a way of verifying, but honestly anyone with an IQ above 10, can figure out to say they are older.

I've had a myspace for 4 or five years (since I was around 11). And honestly as long as you keep to the people that you know, and keep it on private, you will have little problems. I talk to people from my school, from my previous school. And a couple people from KMA (hehe).

i only talk to people i know. OH and they're also a featured called "denying friend requests" now im not sure but i THINK that could keep predators away from your profile once you decline them. so if you think myspace is bad, try using Facebook, it's EXACTLY the same thing, its frustrating

I have a myspace and so does my son who is now in college. He got it a couple of years ago, but hardly uses it, he is more into Facebook. I've seen how the whole Facebook works and I'm not impressed with it at all... But...there are crazys out there everywhere and the only safe solution is to stay off the internet!!

i honestly do not understand Facebook myself, its the same as Myspace in some ways, but its ten times non-safer, theres nobody really looking out for anyone and anybody can do anything on anybody profile on Facebook. I find it a waste of my time. i never and remain never using it

Myspace is the same as friendster.
I find nothing wrong with it.
It actually depends on you on how you handle on that.
