Music Events in 1970:

  1. Diana Ross sings with the Supremes for the last time in Las Vegas on January 14th.
  2. January 26, Simon and Garfunkel release their final album, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" which goes on to win Album of the year award, and Song of the year for the title track. And is the best selling album in Britain for the entire 1970's.
  3. January 28th, Jimi Hendrix walks out on a newly formed band called "Band of Gypsies" during a performance stating "I'm sorry we just cant get it together".
  4. February 14th The Who records "Live at Leeds
  5. February 27th, Jefferson Airplane is fined $1000 dollars for using profanity.
  6. February 28th, Led Zeppelin performs under the pseudonym The Nobs due to a threat of a law suit from the airship designer's descendant, Ferdinand Von Zeppelin.
  7. March 6 Charles Manson releases an album called "lies" to fund his legal defense.
  8. April 17th, Johnny Cash performs at the White House for Richard Nixon.
  9. April 20th, Paul McCartney releases first solo album "McCartney"
  10. May 4th, 4 students were gunned down by the National Guard at Kent State University, ohio which was the inspiration for the song "Ohio" By Cosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.
  11. May 15, Beatles last album is released "Let it Be"
  12. May 16, Bachman-Turner Overdrive is formed.
  13. November of this year, Steve Miller band released "Number 5" which contained a tribute to the Shootings at Kent State University "Jackson-Kent Blues"
  14. Bruce Springsteen released a single in tribute to the Kent University shootings "Where was Jesus in Ohio"
  15. The band Styx formed.
  16. Jimmy Buffet begins recordings.
  17. The Monkees break up.
  18. The band Ocean Collective forms.
  19. The first indie label was created by Derek Bailey and Evan Parker, called Incus Records.
