Thread: Hey guys!

Well i just thought id post a little bit about me and my music taste hopefully get it so people know where im comin from a little bit better. Feel free to suggest bands based on my music taste or argue against music i dont like i dont mind but please lets keep it civil. i like arguing but theres a way to do it without gettin angry.

My names anthony. I play an Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci 6 guitar for the most part. also own a washburn Acoustic which i love and a Schecter Hellraiser which doesnt get too much playing time since my Ernie Ball lol.

One of the things i pride myself on is taking bands everyone likes, aka crossfade, and finding songs nobody knows. theres a lotta great bands out there that get ruined by the radio and 2 songs. lately i found a band i really really have enjoyed a tonn which is Evans Blue (ill probably soon put a new post about them) i like to say i like rock but that is a really broad spectrum. so I love the somewhat harder rock like Red, Alter bridge, and The Black Keys. i like to ease it up with a little bit of Incubus(my fav band) John Butler Trio, and Widespread Panic. (lots more but yea)

I personally hate punk with a passion. punk and what i view as grunge. im sorry to all you nirvana fans but i cant do that power chord power chord power chord deal every single punk song has the same drum beat and basically same progression. and their voices are all off key. punk has become more of a deal of i wear punk clothes i skateboard so i listen to green day! (worst band in the world)

I dislike Indie for the same fact that it all sounds the same you can barely hear their voices difference in different indie bands. and yet again because they play so simple things they cant mix it up at all. and again i just dont like the voice at all.

Heavy Metal. ok well i happen to LOVE a lot of guitar riffs in heavy metal i love the drums but lately the screaming isnt doin it for me, i notice i like the As I Lay Dying songs where they sing the choruses and the In Flames songs where he sings the choruses the most.

Country, Rap, And Pop. please just get out if you like these lol jk but yea for real these are the worst music genres ever created. country sings about the same thing, bars, girls, trailer parks, beer, sometimes horses (beastiality i suppose) Rap sings about all material things and has no musical talent whatever, just sing about things you own/want to own and you can be a rapper. and pop just wtf i hate popular music yet i dont understand how it got popular in the first place. really!? justin beiber come on seriously. his balls drop he stops being famous. Miley Cirus... just i dont get how anyone can like them its terrible music they usually dont even write and instruments are like egyptian to them. no talent whatsoever just rich parents and a lot of time in the barber shop.

well i doubt anyone really read this entire thread which is cool cuz its pretty long. if you did you happen to know a good bit more about my music taste. if anyone has any opinions, band suggestions, or arguements feel free.

I actually started reading through what you wrote, but I was turned off by your statements that you hate and/or dislike entire genres. You came across very close minded musically. Although there is a certain style/genre of music that I like more than others...I would never disregard other music based solely on the genre. There is great music out there waiting to be discovered in some of the genres that you just tossed aside. I try to stay open, and be willing to listen to everything. If you don't do that, you're missing out.

thats true. i was mainly trying to say that i dont like those genres, every song ive found or others have showed me fitting those categories i personally think is terrible, its my opinion others may not agree which is perfectly fine. i mainly said that for the fact that if people wanna suggest music i probably wont like anything from those categories. i wouldnt say close minded i listen and find new music every day and am veryy open to new music suggestions. i love hearing new music its what keeps my day going besides the music i already have. i couldve lied but i wont im just being honest about my music taste and music that has done nothing but annoy me and make me wanna hide in a closet til its over. im just honest i like A LOT of music. just not punk/grunge/pop/country/rap/indie thats not even half of whats out there. but if you got that from what i said im sorry

Brotha i know some Punk/metal **** u'd prolly dig. Check out the Refused or even some Dillenger Escape Plan(dont really dillenger but i give props to the musicians)

Other genres i bet i can brake u of hating as well. But itll take time to learn ur style and what u like.

Thank you smokescreen! thats exactly what this post was for. Dillinger escape plan i found a few songs i liked. my favorites were "black bubblegum" and "setting fire to sleeping giants". "horse hunter" was pretty good too. some of their music sounds like slipknot in the way of a lot of meaningless screaming and over technical guitar, trying to hard to make it technical forgetting to make it sound good (in my opinion). Refused i found a few good songs "the deadly rhythm" "new noise" and "liberation frequency" (liberation bein my favorite). what i didnt like from them was the stuff like "pump the brakes" which is where they go a little to punk for my taste.

I know whatcha mean man. I too am not a huge punk fan at all. I dig some stuff but the magority is eh...
Im going to assume u like ska cuz i mean who doesnt like ska(except for droogie? or chaos-my bad im pretty sure its one you who doesnt like sublime....) But check out some Rx Bandits they used to be a lil punk/skaish but i bet ud dig some of their new stuff for sure here peep it:

oh wowww!! i really really liked both of those songs man thats awesome. thats ska?? i thought ska was something completely different that i did not like at all but if thats ska then damn thats whatsup. im gonna have to look up more songs by both those bands

Lol yeah ska really means a tiny bit of punk spunked up with horns but more melodic(to me anyway)

hahah yea wow i really like rx bandits i downloaded a few more of their songs and their all awesome havent found a bad one yet. imma warn you ahead of time country, pop, and rap is pretty much outta the question unless its rap like Flipsyde with sweet guitar.

What about Slightly Stoopid kinda rap? Not all of there stuff is but they do have some.

Kinda like "til it gets wet" and "sweet honey" yea i really like slightly stoopid i might be goin to see them this summer at wakarusa! and if thats a form of "rap" then hell yea i like that then

only what you've heard bro. You can't listen to what MTV or the radio plays and expect to hear the best hiphop out there. Are you saying that I have no musical talent? I'm a hiphop artist... so? It's not as easy as you think. Wayyyyy narrow minded dude.

lol. no im not saying that. most rap out there only sings about material things you cannot argue that, its a fact. my bad for the blanket statement i have heard some decent rap. i like pac, i like biggie smalls, i like some krayzie bone, and some bones thugs n harmony. it was also an opinion. i mean do you make your own beats? if you do awesome but most rappers dont. they have beats made for them and they rap to them. and i didnt say "rappers" have no musical talent im saying the genre itself doesnt take as much musical talent. its mainly being good with words and havin a wide vocabulary. im not hating at all just stating my opinion so dont take offense. if you had stuff recorded id be happy to give it a listen

Lol chill wordz im workin on him. trying to break him outta his shell. Although we should prolly break him into hip-hop slowly but surely cuz yeah there are good hip-hop bands. But the majority are underground still.
