Thread: The best modern metal bands?

  1. #1

Default The best modern metal bands?

If you search for any sort of "metal essentials" you'll get loads of Metallica, Iron Maiden...bands of those sorts, which I consider "oldies."

I'm into modern metal, most enjoyable is when screaming and singing alternate in a song - vocals have to be clean!

    Some bands I enjoy:

    All That Remains
    As I Lay Dying
    August Burns Red
    Bullet For My Valentine
    Diecast
    Haste The Day
    Heaven Shall Burn
    In Flames
    Killswitch Engage
    Life In Your Way
    Mudvayne
    Norma Jean

Anyone else out there who loves modern metal and can recommend any bands? I recently came across As Blood Runs Black and they have some nice sounds.

Porcupine Tree: Talk about heavy...You probably won't like them since they're more of a prog band, but Ozzy Osbourne wishes he could write the type of riff that's in songs like Shallow and Deadwing.

    Default listen to real metal

a good number of the bands listed so far aren't real metal.
    five finger death punch?
    killswitch engage?
    bullet for my valentine?
    Trivium?
    absolutely not metal

I like between the buried and me which was one the bands mentioned, but if you're looking for some good metal bands out now, look up these:
    arsis
    behemoth
    heaven shall burn
Slayer (technically older, but still recording and playing shows)
    the red chord
    soilent green
    Nile
    vital remains
    decapitated

there's more that i could list, but those are some of my favorites.

I've always felt confused about Trivium. They have songs that don't sound metal (like Dying In Your Arms, which is kinda lame actually) but they have a few kickass metal songs too.

u dont need to be confused, trivium is extremely awful. they're trying to imitate thrash bands now, and they overall just plain fail

metal/screamo? "screamo" has nothing to do with metal.
people new to metal usually think that way as they havnt been exposed to real metal long enough.

seems from the bands you like you should check out Acid Bath, they arnt similar but they were a band that helped me get into the heavier stuff.

or if you want to dive head first into some of the more extreme stuff check out:

    Carcass
    Death
    Nile
    Exhumed
    Zyklon
    Leviathan
    Evoken
    Tsjuder
    1349
    Napalm Death
    Gorgoroth

all good bands that i liked when i first became interested with extreme metal.

then from there feel free to check out:

    Aborym
    Arkhon Infaustus
    Abigor
    Akercocke
    Angelcorpse
    Crystalium
    Funeral Mist
    Deathspell Omega
    Neo Inferno 262
    Negligent Collateral Collapse
    Nortt
