    Default Urgent Question

    Hi guys,

I'm currently using Sibelius to compose a piece in E Major. When composing the piano part in the grand staff, I've noticed that when I go below middle C whilst starting a melody in the treble clef, Sibelius creates extra ledger lines before it puts the notes into the bass cleff. As in, it creates a ledger line for A for the note A to be played, when it really should be played in the A line of the bass cleff, which obviously already exists.

Is this an error with Sibelius or is it acceptable?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

If I understand what you're describing correctly, that's done to help keep the hands separated, and is perfectly normal.

Is it necessary to notate different parts of a piece above the staff? Like for example 'intro' 'verse' 'chorus', or is that not necessary when composing a 'piano and flute' piece or a 'violin, viola, harp, piano, horn' piece?

Nope..not necessary, unless you write it with a coda.

Thanks. I've figured out how to notate the piece. Cheers :-)

    Hi guys,

I have a question in regards to bar breaks. Is it a requirement to break up each segment (verse, chorus, coda) into a new separate block of bars? Or is it ok to have them going all in one consecutive batch?

Thanks again in advance for your help, its very much appreciated.

It depends what it's for. It's not wrong to just have a singe bar, but it's nice and visually obvious if you have that block of bars to separate. It's personal taste really.
