in my opinion it sucks, and too back me up, because its all repetetive and cliqueish, it makes me sick.

i stick to expireimental, industrial, metal/hard rock, noize, intrumental, orchestra/symphonies, ambience, minimalism

everyone has different tastes but some just dont want to hear any of this at all. it kinda gets me angry.
also rap music and hip hop is freaking irratitating, with the exceptiong of triphop and chillout music. a

aka massive attack, goldfrapp.
BECAUSE IT HAS A POINT AND ITS INTELLIGENT.
AND YOUR MUSIC'S MESSAGE IS ABOUT EMOTIONS, ***, REALTIONSHIPS...ITS NOT ABSTRACT.
Rock in the sense of classical rock and trying to take ideals from then like what HUB said. Led Zepplin, The Beatles, The Doors, The Clash. pleasee............its overused.

Honestly it's a dumb question. Why do you like what you like? People are all different.

I love music from Korea and Japan alot, and all different types of genres. Electronica, pop, rock, techno, house, etc. Music is different for everyone.

EDIT: So? You seem to forget that NOT EVERYONE VIEWS MUSIC THE WAY YOU DO. You can't expect people to dislike the things you dislike. I like pop music because Its fun, happy, and some puts me in a better mood. Some people like pop because it's "cool". Everyone will have different opinions. Even if the lyrics suck, some people love the beats.

I don't like alot of mainstream rap because the lyrics are stupid and the beats are stupid and overdone. I like underground rap that has a message and nice beats. However, mainstream rap sells because others UNLIKE myself enjoy the beats and lyrics.

EDIT 2: Ok, whatever. This guy is close-minded. There is no way to win with this guy.

It's just the way the music "charges" a person, the way it makes them feel. I enjoy orchestral as well as rock (classical fan long before "music with words"). It also has to do with what a person was raised listening to. Me, I grew up listening to rock, jazz and classical--that's what I like to listen to now.

Though, I did read a pretty bull psychology article saying that what people listened to was determined by their personality...now, that was cliche.

people like rock music because its the best type of music in the world. i hate rap and always will. anything related to rap music or hiphop i hate. i love any type of rock music and i like heavy metal but nowhere near as much. if u like instrumentals jimi hendrix has done a few good ones but i will stick to my slash and zakk wylde solos. also some of the oldies are good for short solos and intros such as chuck berry 'Johnny B Goode'. the intro to that is amazing even though its from the 50s. i think that rock is the best but its because of the bands not just the music. some people like a band because they have things in common with the band or the band members. like the way they act. i love guns n roses more than any band because i love their music and i think im like their ex lead guitarist slash. i like alot of the same things as him and i act abit like him when i play guitar. and the reason i hate rap is because it mostly just talking about gettin stoned and sleepin with prostitutes or anyone and all they do is swear. i have no problem with swearing when people talk to me but if u listen to music u want to chill not hear someone swearing all the time.

i agree with u on rap music.
rap= people rhyming into a mic with some random beat in the bkground

however, rock, indie, post punk, and pop usually have very catchy tunes. THe melodys are usually 5 notes or less, and somehow sound OK.
also, they usually just use a few different chord progressions.

like in rock its I, V, vi, IV
in pop lots of it is vi, I, V, II

i'm not sure if u understand wut im talkin about, but i think lots of people are accostumized to the sounds of a certain genre music. they like it, so they will stick with what they know they'll like, not go out and finid new music.

i hate opera music, but that doesnt mean everyone else hates it, u kno??

This is a rhetorical question, as it is obvious you don't care about the answer. And it is incoherent. You say that "rock" sucks, but you admit you like metal and hard rock.

If you are trying to say that you don't like contemporary popular music because it is repetitive and cliqueish, I'd agree. It is also derivative of the great inventors and creators who came before. And I don't much like contemporary metal either, as it has hardly moved one guitar lick since Led Zeppelin.

Edit:

Why does music have to be "abstract" to be good? Never heard THAT as a criterion before. The best music involves us emotionally.

and FYI Rap is NOT just rhyming about random stuff, if you actually listen to the lyrics you'll learn something, so dont say something you cant back up. seriously. rap music does have a meaning and the people who make there living off of it try really hard to make the money they do

People asking moronic questions without thinking them through, not being able to spell correctly, & not having an open mind.

This has spell check. It's free. Take advantage of it. The music you listen to stems from the music that you despise so much. Your beloved music wouldn't be here if the old rock bands didn't exist. But you wouldn't comprehend all that anyways.
