For indie bands, try Broken Social Scene, The Arcade Fire, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Neutral Milk Hotel, & The Decemberists.
For punk bands, listen to The Bouncing Souls, The Lawrence Arms, This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb, Anti-Flag, & Dillinger Four.

Do yourself a favor and check out the Face to Face "Live" release - it will change your life. Other recommendations: Link 80, Bouncing Souls (OLD releases such as Maniacal Laughter), Goldfinger, and Operation Ivy...to name a few.

Ok there are so many of them.

The Clash
The *** Pistols
Bad Religion
Pennywise
The Ramones
Dead Kennedys
Operation Ivy
Nofx
Social Distortion
The Pogues
The Offspring
Green Day (I know it's kinda cool to hate them after American Idiot, but they're one of the best punk bands ever)
Rancid

And I think you can throw Sum 41 and Blink 182 on that list too. Nothing compared to the Clash, but they're great bands.

It's a damn shame that Fall Out Boy is gonna be around for a while because they have their own record company now. I've yet to hear any talent out of them, except for a few catchy songs, and to tell you the truth, their older stuff isn't too bad. Yeah they're better then a good amount of the mainstream bands right now, that's not saying much. I hate this new type of music though, I do think that music is changing for the better and it'll be back sooner then later.

So for now, go listen to the underground stuff, theres always stuff to listen to, you just gotta find it. Me, I've been listening to some underground harder punk bands, and I'm a huge fan of ska.
