i think these trends exist becuase it was new at the time and people really seemed to like it so they started following it...

Fashion has always been a part of music, even the indie scene which claims to not follow a fashion trend... though they all where jeans, plaid, flannel shirts or old obscure band t's..
And what is EMO? people say emo and don't even know what it is. check out Sunny Day Real Estate or Texas is the Reason.. that's emo. not Scene bands and fashion.. they aren't the same and Scene is not really emo.

indie has a scene look to it which i tend to go for. and the 60s/70s hipster is pretty cool too. Emo is just super depressing and all-black attire.

Emo's trends i don't like that much, it stays the same all along. But about Indie and Hip Hop, it lets you play much more when choosing the clothes. It's like it vary from people to people in the same group. About punk, I used to be one, so I got to love it anyways.

fashion is business. besides, i don't like it when everyone else from a certain genre looks all the same. they lose their individuality.
