huh? how did rancid get up there with the dead kennedys and the misfits? you need to ask more specific questions if you need help. i was in the punk scene for years.

I completely disagree with you, honestly. I'm tired of people thinking that Greenday and popular bands like them are the only punk bands today. There is good punk now adays, you justhave to look for it. I'll give you some examples and you tell me if you still agree.

kid ran off...typical. so heres my slant on punk devolving (no offense ppg youre right there are plenty of good punk bands out there)

when punk came out it was political and young, and not mainstream and marketed. the purpose of punk was (to be generic) anarchy and rebellion. but like anything good it became a fad. so major labels picked it up and promoted really horrible punk bands like green day. now green day had some potential with kerpunk and 39 smooth (whatever it was called) but turned to skitt. great bands from the same scene like operation ivy didnt come into play for personal integrity.

in the end mass marketing and dumb kids made punk what it is today while stand up kids like ppg keep the diy ethic going.

once again *lloks at op* what the hell is rancid doing in that category???????

I do think there a lot of great contemporary punk bands out there. If you know where to look, of course. Though I totally get the argument that marketing has kind of made sure a lot of bands are in it for the wrong reasons. In the end, I think you can still find some snotty, crusty punk bands, they're just fewer and farther between these days.

also if any one does whant to listen to a good modern punk band try looking up the Kombi Killers they a uprising punk band from brisbane australia and in my opinion sound like a mix between the sexpistols and the misfits

What's funny, is that some consider Avril Levigne punk - hahaha

Rancid has a wicked bassist!, that why I listen to them occasionally....Maxwell Murder is uber fun to play.
