Prog Metal anyone?
|
|
I'm a huge fan of Prog Metal, I know theres the obvious one's, like Coheed and Cambria, Dream Theater and Symphony X but does anyone know of any more obscure bands of this genre? I recently discovered an awesome band called Andromeda that was a fine exsample and just blew me away.

Prog is like mainstream, meaningless avant-garde. It's like they want to be edgy, but can only pull it off to a clique of twelve-year-olds who want to find "identity". The entire genre is watered-down and doesn't involve anything personal at all.

What? Prog has literally hundreds of sub-genres, sure that can be said for many of the big 70's bands, but it's a huge genre that includes Avante-Garde.

Wikipedia tells me this when I ask it for prog: Progressive rock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anyway, to lump everything that's "progressive" into a single genre is absurd. That's like calling "music" a genre and justifying it with its hundreds of subgenres. It defeats the purpose of cataloging music at all. Prog refers to that crappy 70s progressive rock, no matter how much you rally for it. And you spelled your avant-garde like an Italian; are you really all right with giving all the French had to offer over to Italy?

here's a very simple tip that you should learn to incorporate, wikipedia is not a good source. people are allowed to edit whatever the hell they want on that site. so basically your information for Progressive Rock is considerably pointless
furthermore, i go with what MMM says
