There is a right answer, and its that rock, or any genre of music in general is neither satanic or not, its the individual bands you have to look at within the genre, I had already posted something similar earlier so the origonal topic has already been answered, but this thread is still bringing up good conversations so why close it?

Hey, Extreme, I found this site which is packed with article after article on rock musicians who have music and lyrics that have a satanic influence. I was suprised to see Carlos Santana, Elton John, The Beatles, Prince, and the Rolling Stones in the list. This list also blasts country music as well as christian rock. You should check these articles out, I book marked the site for future reference since I couldn't look at all the articles.

I've been holding off on this onebut I will give you my two cents. I do know that when I was playing in Metal bands and listing to the heaviest stuff I could find it affected my attitude and how I interacted with other people. It was not good on my part.I really let it get into my head. Read what you will into it,but that has been my personal experience.

There have been some good opinions expressed so far, my personal point of view is that no music is really satanic, unless it is specifically written by actual satanist's for their rituals and celebrations, I don't know any real mantras or chants and probably wouldn't post them if I did. I have met a satanist in real life and he looked at me like a lion looks at a gazelle, a very scary guy and he ended up in prison for homicide. Which didn't surprise me at all, I was only 15 when my brother brought him home one day, but I'll never forget the reptilian nature he projected and I guess evil as well for lack of a better term.
Here is a Youtube video of Tubular Bells from Mike Oldfield used in the soundtrack of the most frightening movie I have ever seen, The Exorcist, is it satanist? I don't think so but it certainly provides an excellent accompaniment to this movie and still gives me chills to this day.

Here's an album done by a band I like, Iced Earth's Dark Saga, based on Todd MacFarlane's graphic novel Spawn, it is filled with dark themes and demons and the big evil dude himself, yet it is not satanist music simply tells a dark story about one of the coolest new characters to come out of the graphic/comic world in a long time. I love the cover of this album.

Of course rock music isn't satanic, silly. Your sister just needs to sit down and listen to Midnight to Twelve. XD
Amazing band, it will change her opinion. ^_~

I have always found this topic interesting.
At the end of the day, I think music influences people in different ways, like anything.
I have always taught my son "you become who you associate with" . This of course is in reference to the company he keeps. Associate with good people who hold values you agree with . If you hang out with a bad crowd, it will rub off on you eventually and you will become one of the bad crowd.
I believe this could....and I say "Could" apply to music as well. I have had this discussion with my son and simply told him to be aware of what he listens to.
We all agree there is a lot of dark stuff out there and violence as well.
I find some music and some bands extremely disturbing so as I parent I would definately not approve of my son listening to it. Not because I think he will turn violent or suicidal all of the sudden but simply because it goes too far.
I listened to black sabbath...etc and I turned out just fine but I also wasnt so emersed or obsessed with any one type of music or band.
Bottom line is I think an obsession with violent dark music (especially if it is crappy, and a lot of it is imho) is a symptom of something but definately not a cause.

One more point to the original poster
Many have trashed your sister for expressing her opinion. While I may not agree with her, Your Sister is simply concerned as a sister should be. She has good intentions whether they are extreme or not. It is only you who really knows whether your music is effecting you that way.
Once again, I think most rock/metal is harmless but some isnt.
Let me pose this question.
Imagine your sweet daughter of 16 says "mom/dad, my friend at school has asked me out on a date and he will be here to pick me up at 6:00."
At 6:00 a guy in an old hearse pulls up blasting Slayer with the windows down and jumps out of the car looking scary as hell. He then proceeds to show absolutely no respect (as many of these band members dont) to you or your family as he picks up your daughter. As they leave, he scares the Sh*T out of the neighbors kids.
Now truthfully, are you at all concerned.
Sometimes perspective changes everything
