Question Has anyone else noticed that listening to Nirvana can make one feel almost suicidal?

soo.......my boyfriend will get drunk or high, crank Nirvana up & them start talking about stuff...like how listening to Nirvana makes him feel safe, like it would be ok to die right then and there...just float away from earth?

sometimes even when he is sober he gets that way, its scary...and i was just wondering if it was just him...or if Kurt Cobain's voice & lyircs makes anyone else feel the same way?? buts its 100 times worse when he's wasted

i listen to it and his voice is beautiful and the lyrics are very distubred & grief-stricken...but i just dont see it
i worry when he listens to Nirvana...and i dont want to ask him to stop, because that would be wrong...music is supposed to invoke different types of feelings within u, and it certainly does with him...but still...ugh, i'm sort of in a predicament

maybe someone else can help me with this
thanks much.....

lol

1. how does "like how listening to Nirvana makes him feel safe, like it would be ok to die right then and there...just float away from earth" come across as suicidal??? i mean unless theres more to it, but if you ask me it just sounds like his way of saying how much he enjoys the music.
if it bothers you talk to him about it, simple as that.

2. Speaking of depressing music,

Leviathan's Tenth Sub-Level of Suicide, great album if your a fan of black metal.

Radiohead makes me feel depressed. Nickelback makes me feel suicidal.

Music wouldn't make someone feel suicidial. Well, when I hear Nickelback I want to commit suicide just so I don't have to hear them anymore. But..honestly wanting to commit suicide is a mental condition due to depression or a chemical imbalance of another kind.

Anyways, it sounds like he might just like the music a lot. I wouldn't really worry about it unless he actually tries to kill himself or talks in detail about how he would do it.

I know what he means when he says that it makes him feel safe etc, and it would be ok if he died right now. I don't think this has got much to do with Nirvana to be honest, i think this has got to do with problems that your boyfriend has. But for lots of people, listening to bands like Nirvana or Radiohead can just make them think about everything in "the grander scheme of things", contemplating what it would be like to die, but often not actually considering suicide. Theres not much you can do really... if it really bothers you, or you think he's capable of causing harm to himself, then tell him that you think its not good for him. be prepared, he might react badly to that. He sounds like the kind of person who uses music as a lifeboat.

Nirvana is amazing, my favorite band @_@
And some of their songs are good for when you're sad...but some of them are kinda happy too. And I don't think any of them have THAT much influence on me.

Maybe it's the alcohol that is getting to his head.

Well, I think you know the answer to your question if you really think about it.
BTW while alcohol is a stimulant short term, for many it is a depressant over time as is most drugs. Hopefully your boyfriend has a good handle on it but my impression is there could be a problem. Alternately, sometimes people try to be profound , especially around girlfriends simply to impress or have them think of them as deep and complicated. I mean, Curt's problems and addictions were the things that seem to boost his career. Everyone strives to be different and special . Sometimes it is real, sometimes its fabricated.

Just be aware and use common sense. I havent had a drink in 16 yrs since my son was born. I would me more concerned of the drinking and drugging getting out of hand which could then lead to your initial concern.
