I don't think people are thinking of the progressive rock genesis. That is, the one with Peter Gabriel at the helm. None of this "Abacab" or "Paperlate" stuff. It was more of a Yes-type band.
I am disappointed that Gentle Giant didn't make the poll.
I also never thought of Floyd as prog-rock. There music is very cool, however.
I would have to say Yes tops the list here. Rush was referred to by my Berklee theory instructor as "Yes with brain damage." That said, I truly enjoy early Rush.
The thing with Yes was the insane level of musicianship. GREAT vocal harmonies. Steve Howe played every conceivable style, Chris Squier had a totally unique sound and approach, Rick Wakeman was a virtuoso, and Bill Bruford is one of the most highly regarded drummers in rock and fusion history.
