Default Favorite Progressive Rock Band of the 70's

Simple enough which of the legendary prog-rock bands do you like the most or think had the greatest impact on the genre?

Can't make a wrong vote here as far as I'm concerned, but I'm voting for Jethro Tull just to be certain they get at least one vote.

Genesis. I am a mellow girl, of course. I have alot of Genesis and Phil Collins albums in my collection. A close second would be Pink Floyd~~The Wall

Pink Flyod was so musical... they were deep and were concerned more about the whole album rather than one song or just the vocals. They knew how to take the audience to a completely different place and I believe that is what a rock show is there for. If you wanna whine about life (lol), go listen to the blues, if you wanna cry in your beer (lol), go listen to country, but if you wanna escape life and forget about everything that is happening and chase the sun or ride the wind, listen to pink floyd!

I don't think people are thinking of the progressive rock genesis. That is, the one with Peter Gabriel at the helm. None of this "Abacab" or "Paperlate" stuff. It was more of a Yes-type band.

I am disappointed that Gentle Giant didn't make the poll.

I also never thought of Floyd as prog-rock. There music is very cool, however.

I would have to say Yes tops the list here. Rush was referred to by my Berklee theory instructor as "Yes with brain damage." That said, I truly enjoy early Rush.

The thing with Yes was the insane level of musicianship. GREAT vocal harmonies. Steve Howe played every conceivable style, Chris Squier had a totally unique sound and approach, Rick Wakeman was a virtuoso, and Bill Bruford is one of the most highly regarded drummers in rock and fusion history.

I didn't have room for everyone that's why there is the "Other" selection at the bottom of the poll. Pink Floyd is considered prog the same as early Genesis which you already pointed out.(I've seen this particular poll before and they always included Pink Floyd). I am a huge Yes fan as well, in fact there aren't many prog bands that I don't like.

Rush! Is there any competition? Really should there be?
