Question Nu-"metal" ?

do you consider it metal?

personally i find no metal influence in most of it, just hard rock and hip-hop.
i dont see metal influence in korn or the deftones, but then with bands like slipknot and mudvayne they are somewhat between metal and hard rock so i guess it is debatable.

discuss.

I think some are, but a lot of the Metal, NuMetal (yeah...) would make more since to be considered Alt Metal or something.

Korn, and those, not really. But Disturbed, Slipknot, yeah they are.

Disturbed is a really short border line right after the border line of NuMetal, but they could be considered Hard Rock in some ways too.

If "Nu-Metal" refers to the combination of rap vocals rhythms with crunching metal guitar riffs, then personally I don't consider it metal. I agree with MeMyMine as well, just doesn't measure up to the other metal sub-genre's that I listen to. Why not call it "Rap Core?

if they called it Rap Core, i dont think it would have as many fans toward the music as NuMetal has attracted. More fans will be attracted to the music if they feel like the genre fits them well. Hearing people say "Dude, i just listened to some Rap Core" people who dislike rap would be like "Um, no im okay" So it would lose less listeners of that genre. Than again, that means the true loves of that music would listen to it other than the listeners who dont give a damn about the music at all

i sorta lean this way in that just because its **** doesnt mean it cant be metal, but on the other hand just because a band puts some heavy distortion on their guitars doesnt necesarily make it metal.

I'm not sure what else would constitute metal.

well for one, you could constitute metal with actual metal talent. or you can have singers who sing "metal" so you're wrong when you say nothing else but that can constitute metal because a lot of different things can.

I'm sure you didn't have any actual content in that post. Praytell, how is my point refuted if you supplement me by saying that metal is constituted by "metal"? Talent doesn't necessarily have anything to do with making music, and that's really something that you might want to take care to note.
