Default The Melvins

Idk if there is already a thread for this, but does anyone else dig the Melvins? I just started listening to them recently. Apparently they were a big influence for bands like Nirvana and I have been absolutely blown away by these guys. They're like a really heavy precursor for sludge metal and grungy type music I think, and by heavy, I mean HEAVY. They use so much distortion. For a 3 piece they carry so much power. It's like a wall of sound. It's utterly amazing.

I actually just found out about them (like yesterday)....I'm reading Heavier Than Heaven - Cobain bio.

He actually lived with one of them and hung out at their rehearsal space.

Recommend me some tracks.

yeah apparently kurt cobain tried out for the band as a bassist but didn't make it. As the story goes he didn't make it because he got so nervous and forgot all of the songs lol. There aren't really many youtube links for the songs so I'll just write a list of good songs to listen to. Mind you, I've barely tapped into the Melvins so far since they have a very extensive discography.

Listen to these songs:
Honey Bucket
A History of Bad Men
Night Goat
Revolve
Hooch

^^I found all of their albums MZ, I am checking out Stoner Witch first, it seems to be one of their most acclaimed albums.(I much prefer complete albums rather than single songs.)

So happy this thread appeared after just reading about them.

YES!

King Buzzo looks like an awesomely chill guy to hang out with.

Great band, great music, huge influence on the grunge scene.

By the way, this thread should be in the doom section. The Melvins started off with punk/grunge but progressed into a sludge band.

melvins rule. their best songs (in my opinion) are:
1. Copache
2. Roadbull
3. Honey Bucket
4. Foaming
5. Green Manalishi

good albums to start off with are Houdini, Bullhead, and Stoner Witch.

Hooch is amazing, that song is nice and heavy. Easily my favourite. A History of Bad Men is awesome, too.

Diggen the band. Dunno y i havent heard of them before... Ive been a tool fan for a long time(8th grade) which is like 10 years now(wow really? 10 f'in years? lol) but yeah im diggen just from what ive heard only thing i can say is i wish they got a bit heavier at times. They kinda crescendo up and hit the double forte when id prefer them to go to the forte fortisimo(sp). But still really dig em.
Thanx for this and the other post u posted(in the band vs. band thread)
