I saw this band perform live for the second time last night, at a small club here. I was going to post a little review of the show in my 2009 Summer Concert thread, but Cowboy tells me we need more band threads. So, I’m giving HURT their own thread!

Formed in Virginia in 2000, but now living in Los Angles the band HURT is labeled at wiki as Alternative Metal. The most interesting part of this band (to me) is the front man, J. Loren Wince. At an early age he studied to be a classical violinist. He’s the talent of this band. He’s the songwriter, the frontman who performs and always connects to his audience. He uses a dual mic setup for some of the songs, and plays the violin, and guitar. The music evokes emotion, and rocks at the same time. They are an amazing band to see, hear (and feel) live.

The show last night had a really small turn out. There were only a couple of hundred people there (Monday night was to blame), and new this time was a mini-acoustic set they added on to the end of the show. They also came back out after the set ended and hung around talking to everyone. Great band, and extremely underrated. They were actually dropped by their record label (Capital) in 2008. On April 7, 2009 Hurt released Goodbye To The Machine, on the independent Amusement record label.

Studio Albums
2000 Hurt
2003 The Consumation
2006 Vol. 1 (Trey highly recommends this album)
2007 Vol, 2
2009 Goodbye To The Machine

Other Albums
2006 Connect Sets
2007 The Blackmarket EP
2008 The Re-Consummation

Vol 1 & 2 Playlist: YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Great thread, and band.

I highly recommend this band to anybody who likes alternative rock/metal, I only have their self titled album, but I'm listening to vol. 1&2 right now. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before our friend Jerry stops by with his opinion on this band.

Reminds me of Tool a little bit. I really like the vocals and the big dynamic swings. Lyrics seem a bit anti-Christian but I'm kicking this down to my buds on Facebook anyway.

Thanks for reading LG. I think you'll like Vol. 1. Magic, they played quite a few songs off the new album at the show. I was going to purchase it on my way out (but I used all my cash at the bar).

I can see where you might get a little Tool from them. You're always all over the lyrics Roadie. lol The singer was raised on gospel music (Rock music wasn't even allowed in his home). I'm pretty sure his music is not anti-Christian.

I always thought L. Loren's voice sounds like he has a cold or is holding his nose. Hurt has a lot of good songs. I'm more into metal but this band caught my attention. Their lyrics are profound and memorable, and that is really important.
