Thread: Skunk Anansie Appreciation Thread

    Default Skunk Anansie Appreciation Thread

After posting a live review in my journal, the absolutely lovely super-moderator Trey politely informed me that it was being wasted in the member journal area and that she wished I had started a new thread about the band in the main forums... so after several days in the wilderness and beating myself up about it I decided to brave my first band related thread (apologies if this is too indulgent), and what better way than with a band that has moved me like no other... For those who don't know, I'd like to introduce you to.... [drum roll smiley] - (though completely pointless as I posted the name in the title bar)... Skunk Anansie.

I have nothing against woman fronted rock bands but in my opinion it's pretty rare for them to really RTFO... not the case here.

I've mulled over this endlessly to introduce songs in the most defining manner possible and much against my mental predisposition to chronology I'm starting from their last studio album from 1999 (after which they split before reforming this year)

I'll start with the dark stuff.

tragically I can only find videos for the singles (I don't like introducing with live versions) so will post some select cuts from here on out.

A Ballad and a great pop tune

...and 2 new songs from the impending Greatest Hits

Hey?... Are they great or what?

    Exactly how I feel Gaz!

Thanks for taking the time to make this band thread in the main forum (no copy and paste either ).

Your journal is always a good read, so I'm going to recommend members check it out as well.

Gaz, thanks for sharing these guys. They definitely have a very unique sound which seems pretty hard to find these days. The singers sound almost reminds me of a female Jack White (in a good way). Great musicianship, and an excellent vocalist will make me pursue this band further. Thanks again for introducing us to them!

That is a really really good one!!!
Support bacteria, it's the only culture some people have.

    you've got to get better,
said, it's all in your head,
we could live through these letters
    or forget it altogether,
see the months they don't matter
its the days I can't take
when the hours move to minutes
    and I'm seconds away
