Early Hetfield is better,,,recently Mustaine has evened things up...I'm flipping a coin and the verdict is....Hetfield. I simply like early Metallica better than later Megadeth, but Mustaine is talented no doubt.

Im gonna have to go with Hetfield as well. Mustaine has that great thrash metal voice as does Hetfield, but Hetfields voice is much deeper and more soothing, whereas in differentiality, Mustaine is more high maintained and forceful.

I see its Dave Mustiane well you cant compare a Lead Guitarest & a Lead Vocal with an Rythem Guitarest & lead vocal ,, mustiane do more hard work he singes he plays solo's not like James

They both do solos actually. Listen to the Day That Never Comes off their new album. The guitar solo at the end is all Hetfield with the help of his two fellow companions

Mustaine is head & shoulders above Hetfield as a guitarist (IMO). I understand the Mustaine is self-taught? If that's true then his musicianship is even more amazing. Those aren't just pentatonic scales he's using there. What an amazing ear!
