Thread: That 1 Guy

    Default That 1 Guy

Didn't know where else to post this.

That 1 Guy is a one man band who uses an instrument he invented himself, which is also attached to a bunch of sampling machines. You can tell there is a bit of Zappa influence, and a bit of primus. Don't know how to explain it, so I've provided some links

    Any fans?

Pretty neat.....a bit of a novelty....

...I think it could get a bit annoying pretty fast for me though, but that's just me.

The first time I heard this guy was live. I was at a outdoor music festival, and just kinda stumbled on him. It blew my goddamn mind. That fond experience is probably why he hasn't gotten old to me.

I have a buddy who is a true one man band....named McRorie...he just does covers though....you might like him.

    Here's his rig:

Kik drum - trigger on left heel
Snare - trigger on left toe
Hats - trigger on right toe
Crash - trigger on right heel
    Toms - pads on chest
Bass - keyboard on left side
Guitars - keyboard on right side
Additional cymbals effects are in the arm bands, and he also has triggers attached to his fingers.
Solos are sung using a voice to midi converter

100% midi, and he can control his light show as well using midi.

It's pretty amazing, but everytime I see him, the first hour is freaking blow your mind....then it gets old real fast.

Ya...I met him in the 80's out in Halifax....we've been great buddies ever since...

He never ceases to amaze me what he can do....due to the drums on his shoes, he looks a bit stiff when he plays, as you can see...but ya gotta do what you gotta do in this case.

He built everything himself, including the midi wireless units, you can probably tell he's a bit of an electronics genius.....

Next time he calls or stops in, I'll pass on the compliment.

Sorry, didn't mean to derail....the OP just reminded me of my bud....thought you'd get a kick out of him.
