Granted, the entire site is dedicated to music, reviews, and discussion of those things, I think this differs in that instead of searching for something you know you'll like the amount of diversity created by a group effort will hopefully open up some minds and have people listening to things they normally wouldn't. Additionally instead of being a band thread where you essentially have a bunch of fans saying how much they like something this would be more open ended.
I'll edit this post when I figure out exactly how to get this working. I'm thinking something like PMing suggestions and using some random method to choose from there. |
I moved your thread to the Suggestions, Feedback, Comments section.
We actually had a discussion thread going a few weeks back on a similar idea (Band of the week). I like the album listening part of your idea a lot. I don't think enough people listen to complete albums, and I believe most (good) artists intend for their music to be experienced in that complete and progressive way.
We had discussed using the chatbox for this, but I think it should be a threaded topic instead. With maybe one night a week chosen as the listening night, which could be done in the chatbox setting. A few of us listened to an album together (via the chatbox) one night, and it was a lot of fun.
As I recall we had decided to let Cowboy select the band each week (We all knew that collectively we would never be able to decide/agree). I know he's been busy lately, but I'll see if I can nail him down on this. I think we just need to get it started, and the idea can develop as we go along.
